SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, IL
Nestled among the cornfields of Illinois and only thirty miles from St. Louis, Scott AFB has a heritage dating back to 1917. Since the base's first days as a pilot training center,
Scott has expanded and flourished into the versatile facility it is today. Scott AFB and its host unit, the 275th Airlift Wing, support several headquarters with worldwide
responsibility: US Transportation Command (TRANSCOM), the Air Mobility Command (AMC), and the Air Force Command, Control Communications and
Computer Agency (AFC4A). Scott AFB encompasses approximately 3,278 acres and has 805 buildings 54 miles of roads. More than 22,000 military dependents and
civilians live or work at Scott. Scott's economic impact upon the local area exceeds $1.3 billion.
Mid-America Airport, a commercial reliever to Lambert International Airport is located adjacent to Scott AFB. It opened in 1997 and will serve as home to the Illinois
Air National Guard. The airport will also serve air passenger and cargo needs for St. Clair and surrounding counties and it will provide the eastern terminal for the Metrolink (light rail)
system serving St. Louis. Mid-America Airport will add a significant air traffic capacity to the St. Louis Region and to the national system of airports. It will benefit commercial air
travelers and air cargo carriers throughout the St. Louis and Southwestern Illinois regions while adding a new dimension in military capability and readiness at Scott AFB.
